Travel to Indonesia during COVID-19

Indonesia is now open to overseas visitors, providing they follow all entry requirements. This includes having all COVID-19 documentation, such as an Indonesia travel health certificate.

Is Indonesia open for tourism?

Indonesia is now open for tourism. In January 2022, the government announced that Indonesia would open borders again to international tourists.

All foreign arrivals must ensure they follow the current entry rules. They should check the most recent updates before travelling.

Is there an Indonesia travel ban?

Indonesia accepts passengers from all countries. There are currently no nations that are banned from entering the country.

The COVID-19 entry restrictions do not depend on the visitor’s nationality or country of origin.

Indonesia travel restrictions for COVID-19

To travel to Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals should be aware of the Indonesian government’s entry requirements for overseas arrivals.

All passengers must have the following to travel to Indonesia:

  • Completed Health Alert Card (e-HAC)
  • COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing full vaccination
  • Negative PCR test result, taken no more than 48 hours before departure

Tourists arriving at Denpasar (DPS) or Batam (BTH) airport must also have:

  • Confirmed accommodation
  • Medical insurance

Indonesia Health Alert Card (e-HAC)

Many countries have introduced a Travel Health Certificate in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia has its own form–the Health Alert Card (e-HAC).

The purpose of the form is to help monitor the health status of international visitors and protect public health from the spread of coronavirus.

The e-HAC is a mandatory travel document for all overseas arrivals. Without a completed and approved Health Alert Card, passengers cannot enter Indonesia.

Completing the e-HAC for Indonesia

The health certificate for Indonesia must be obtained before departure. It only takes a few minutes to complete.

There are 2 different ways travellers can complete the Indonesia e-HAC:

  • The Indonesian government app
  • Online form

Applicants need to complete the form with basic personal information, including:

  • Full name
  • Age
  • Nationality
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Travel information

When the passenger has provided all the required information, they can submit the form. They will receive the approved e-HAC by email, and through the mobile app if it was used to apply.

Do children need a separate Indonesia e-HAC?

Children travelling with a parent or guardian do not need their own form. There is an option on the Health Alert Card application to include any dependant travellers.

Travelling with the Indonesia Health Alert Card

The approved Indonesia Travel Health Certificate will include a QR code, which must be presented when boarding and going through immigration.

Passengers must remember that the e-HAC is mandatory. Without a valid Health Alert Card for Indonesia, overseas visitors will be refused entry.

COVID-19 vaccine certificate for Indonesia

A COVID-19 vaccination certificate is mandatory for all international arrivals.

The certificate must show that the passenger was fully vaccinated against coronavirus at least 14 days before departure.

The document must be both in English and a local language of the issuing country.

Tourists under the age of 18 are exempt from the vaccine rule.

Negative PCR test for Indonesia

All visitors to Indonesia must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result to enter the country.

The test must be taken within 48 hours of departure for Indonesia and be in English.

Only PCR tests are accepted for travel to Indonesia. Antigen or other types of COVID-19 tests are not valid.

Arrivals at Denpasar (DPS) or Batam (BTH) airport

Travellers arriving at Denpasar (DPS) or Batam (BTH) airport must follow additional entry requirements.

These arrivals must have proof of confirmed accommodation for their stay in Indonesia. The booking can be with a hotel or any other type of accommodation.

Passengers going to one of these airports must also have proof of medical insurance which covers COVID-19 costs or up to USD 25,000.
