Malaysia prepares health passport to visit Singapore

Last update: March 1st, 2021

“Those who have been vaccinated will receive a certificate so they should have the benefit of being able to travel to Singapore“, explained Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad, head of the Malaysian state of Johor.

This new travel document, named Immunitee, however, “would only be allowed when 80% of the country’s population have been vaccinated“, according to Hasni.

The creation of a COVID certificate is deemed crucial for Malaysia. Before the pandemic outbreak, more than 100,000 of its citizens commuted from Malaysian territory to Singapore for work-related issues.

Immunitee will provide a vaccine tracking system that is connected to both public and private healthcare databases in Singapore and Malaysia.

The digital health certificate is based on blockchain technology, which ensures the information provided is secure and duly verified for both Malaysian travellers and border authorities.

Creating Malaysia’s first health passport is part of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP), the government’s local initiative to tackle all pandemic-related issues within the country.
